An exceptional, finely patinated bronze stylised model of a stag by and signed Takenaka Masaharu

竹中正晴 (Masaharu III) b. 1936 Japan, Showa period, 1950’s – 1960’s

with and inscription on the base.

Takenaka Masaharu was the third generation of metal sculptors in his family. they came from Takaoka city in Toyama Prefecture. “Masaharu” is the art or 'go' name of the artist. His father and grandfather received many important and imperial commissions and Masaharu III himself was awarded by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (now Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). The foundry set up by the Masaharu family is still functioning today.
